What can TA393 tell your access team?
Start with the payer question
A team preparing a lipid-lowering evidence strategy needs to understand how NICE assessed alirocumab: which populations were considered, which comparators informed the assessment and which uncertainties affected the economic case.
This case study shows how Synapptiq helps examine that appraisal precedent. It is a historical review, not a current product recommendation or treatment advice.
Read the recommendation in its population context
NICE TA393 recommends alirocumab as an option for specified populations with primary hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia, subject to persistent LDL-C thresholds despite maximal tolerated lipid-lowering therapy and the agreed patient access scheme discount.
The conditions differ by population and cardiovascular risk. Consult NICE TA393, section 1 for the recommendation wording and thresholds before applying the precedent to another decision problem.
Connect the assessment to its evidence
HTA Library brings together the recommendation, assessed populations, comparators, clinical benefit, economic case and conditions of use. For TA393 it holds 14 verified trial endpoint results and the recorded model structure: a Markov model with a one-year cycle and a 3.5% discount rate.
Evidence Finder locates the evidence behind the assessment by medicine, trial name, registration identifier or appraisal reference. Examine the population, comparator, endpoint and source page before carrying a finding into a payer discussion.
Medicine Workspace places the appraisal alongside the medicine's regulatory history, clinical and safety evidence, and economics, so one appraisal is read within the wider evidence position rather than treated as the whole of it.
Keep clinical and economic questions distinct
The appraisal considers LDL-C reduction and the relationship between that measure and cardiovascular events. Baseline risk and assumptions about longer-term treatment also matter when examining the economic reasoning.
Population, comparator and analysis stage need to stay attached to any economic result. Results from different populations or stages of the appraisal should not be collapsed into a headline range, so this case study does not publish ICER figures until each is mapped to its exact population, comparator and analysis stage.
Separate appraisal precedent from NHS activity
NHS Analytics supports a separate investigation of where published community prescribing and hospital medicines activity is recorded, and how much activity and cost the sources report. It does not show whether an individual patient meets the appraisal criteria.
Community and hospital measures stay separate. Indicative hospital cost is not actual net expenditure because confidential discounts and rebates are not represented. Reimbursement reference prices from the Drug Tariff are not confidential negotiated NHS prices. Alirocumab NHS totals are not published here while they are reconciled.
Take a source-linked account into the discussion
Use the connected review to separate the published recommendation, the supporting evidence and the questions that need further examination. Executive Briefs can present the review as a structured, source-linked executive report in PDF, Word or HTML, with optional customer branding.
Keep the assessed population and material limitations beside each conclusion. The Governance page explains how findings are checked.
